The Land Rover Discovery VS the Land Rover Discovery Sport

What a Difference the Word "Sport" Can Make: Compare the Discovery to the Discovery Sport Here!

The Land Rover Discovery and the Discovery Sport may share a namesake, but these two luxury SUVs aren't quite interchangeable. For drivers in the Orange County area looking for a little clarification, we'll dive into each model to draw out the aspects that make each unique, allowing you to choose to one that best meets your individual requirements!

The Land Rover Discovery

  • The Land Rover Discovery is the bigger of the two, with standard seating for up to seven passengers.
  • The Discovery offers drivers two engine options, while the Discovery Sport offers only one. In the Discovery, there's an available 3.0-liter TurboDiesel or a 3.0-liter Supercharged V6 engine, so you can take your pick between fuel type and payload. There's only one transmission option, however: an eight-speed automatic.
  • There's also a little more cargo room in the Discovery; as we alluded to before, the third row in the  Discovery doesn't cutout too much cargo room, whereas the cargo space (behind the third row) does suffer in the Discovery Sport once the optional third-row seats are implemented. The Discovery offers 9.0 cubic-feet of cargo space behind the third row, which are able to fold flat for even more.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport

  • The Land Rover Discovery Sport offers standard seating for five, with an optional two-seat third row so you can fit up to seven passengers, but you'll sacrifice a bit of cargo room to do it.
  • Different from the Discovery, the Discovery Sport gives you only one option: a 2.0-liter Turbocharged four-cylinder engine that's both powerful and relatively efficient. However, the Discovery Sport is available with a six- or nine-speed automatic transmission, which differs from the Discovery's single transmission option.
  • In terms of cargo room, the Discovery Sport sees 6.8 cubic-feet behind the optional third-row of seating.

What Do They Share?

These two SUVs share a design language for sure, but there are other standout features you'll find on both:

  • Leather seating is available on both SUVs, but it's standard on the Discovery SE, while it's an available feature on the Discovery Sport SE.
  • Available on both SUVs, a moonroof is standard on the Discovery SE, while it's an option for the Discovery Sport SE.
  • Both of these SUVs give you standard four-wheel drive (4WD) for unrivaled luxury off-roading prowess.

The differences might seem small, but we're not simply splitting hairs here. The Land Rover Discovery and the Discovery Sport are similar albeit distinct luxury SUVs, and if you're still having trouble figuring out which one is right for you, come visit us at Land Rover of Anaheim Hills.
