The Design Icon of Off-Road Luxury-The Legendary Range Rover

The Land Rover Range Rover has just about anything you could need in a luxury five-seater SUV that's both charmingly handsome and off-road ready. With generous standard features, upscale tech and interior appointments, and a delightfully British design language, if you like your luxury dripping and your SUVs strong, capable, and dauntless, the Range Rover SUV deserves a little one-on-one time.

The 2017 Range Rover is available in five delectable trims, each bringing additional measures of luxury, style, and capability:

  • Range Rover
  • Range Rover HSE
  • Range Rover Supercharged
  • Range Rover Autobiography
  • Range River SVAutobiography Dynamic
The base-model Range Rover arrives with everything you'd need for a truly refined off-road experience and a well-curated aesthetic, but if supercharged power is what you crave, the Range Rover Supercharged trim and above carry a 510-horsepower 5.0-liter Supercharged V8 engine (540-horsepower in the SVAutobiography Dynamic trim), for unrivaled power, torque, and capability. With two lengths: regular- and long-wheelbase and standard four-wheel drive (4WD), luxury minded adventure seekers in the Orange County area can spend their days roughing it in style.

Whichever trim you go for, there are a handful of feature packages you'll want to consider before driving it home.

  • The Connected Navigation Package offers you Land Rover InControl® Apps™, which brings you compatible smartphone into the cabin of your car, displaying your apps and navigational cues on a 10-inch touchscreen. An onboard Wi-Fi Hotspot keeps you connected to the world, no matter how far off the road you get.
  • The Black Design Package enhances the overall design language of the Range Rover, giving it a more aggressive, blacked-out aesthetic. Black gloss finish trims the vehicle, touching the vent blades, front bumper, and front and rear badging lettering.
  • Another appearance package to consider, the Dark Atlas Design Package, which again trims the vehicle in sophisticated Atlas and Dark Atlas coloring, using the duality of color to nicely offset each feature, leading to a truly distinguished luxury design.
  • The Technology Package helps keep everyone from bickering, giving you entertainment and connection wherever you travel.

The Land Rover Range Rover VS the Range Rover Sport- So What's the Difference?

The most obvious difference between the Land Rover Range Rover and the Range RoverSport is their respective sizes, with the Range Rover arriving with a longer wheelbase, and the Range Rover Sport arriving smaller and…well, sportier. In terms of performance, both vehicles offer identical engine choices and real off-roading capability. They're also quite evenly matched in terms of safety offerings, with seven standard airbags, parking sensors housed in the front and rear, and a standard rearview camera to round things out. They're also subject to the same available safety options, so don't count on this to be your deciding factor between the two!

Despite sharing a design language and nearly the same name, these two SUVs do differ from one another in ways that might seem small, but are really quite significant, amounting to a much different luxury SUV experience one to the other:

  • Interiors: If you want to pin down the differences into one idea, the hairs would split at degrees of luxury, with the Range Rover weighing in as just a little more urbane than the Range Rover Sport (presumable because it's Sportier). The standard features between the two models are largely similar, but the Range Rover has more robust 29-speaker available Meridian audio system, as well as more opulent interior features, including available massaging rear seat!
  • Performance: With nearly identical powertrains and nearly identical drive systems (full-time four-wheel drive), both vehicles are capable of taking you off road. The real differentiating factor would be the Sports comparably smaller size, making it more easily maneuverable off-road. Combine that with the Range Rover's available extended wheel lase (or Range Rover L), and the Sport handily bests the Range Rover on size alone.
