The latest Range Rover is offered as a plug-in hybrid—and that means it’s not just the most luxurious model in our lineup, it’s also one of the most efficient! In fact, the Range Rover PHEV even offers an all-electric driving mode with up to 48 miles of range, so you may be able to complete your daily commute without using any gasoline at all!
The Range Rover Sport is offered with the exact same plug-in hybrid powertrain that we encountered on the flagship Range Rover. However, since this model has a lower starting price, choosing the Range Rover Sport over the Range Rover will net you a lower total cost-to-own.
The smallest and most accessible Range Rover comes equipped with a 246-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which offers up to 20 mpg in the city and up to 27 mpg on the highway. It’s a great choice for efficiency-conscious drivers who never want to feel held back from adventure.
Like the Evoque, the Velar achieves its best numbers with a 247-hp 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The optional inline-6 engine is only slightly less efficient, so it’s worth considering if you’d like more power for your Los Angeles-area drives.
The Land Rover Discovery is a seven-passenger SUV that’s ready for life’s biggest adventures, and with the base-level turbocharged four-cylinder engine, it gets up to 19 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. With the optional MHEV i6 power plant, it gets 18 mpg city but up to 24 mpg on the highway.
With up to 19 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway with its base-level 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Discovery Sport is an exceptional entry-level off-road luxury SUV. Unlike similarly-sized offerings from other brands, it can even tow well over 4,000 pounds!
Fuel economy ratings for the rugged Land Rover Defender will vary depending on which model you select, but the most efficient Land Rover Defender is the two-door Defender 90. Its best city fuel economy is achieved with the base-level four-cylinder engine, while its best highway fuel economy is achieved with the optional i6! No matter which build or powertrain you settle on, you’ll be able to tackle the toughest trails around.
Land Rover vehicles have what it takes to go just about anywhere in the world, and as you’ve seen from our review of Land Rover mpg ratings, you won’t have to spend a fortune to get there. But if you want to maximize your Land Rover fuel economy on Orange County and Corona roads, just remember that you should coast to a stop as often as you can, take good care of your tires, and always change your spark plugs on schedule!
