Difficulty: Easy to Moderate Overview: Starting near Silverado Canyon, this is the perfect shakedown run for a new Defender. The trail begins paved before turning into a maintained dirt road. After rain, you'll encounter several shallow water crossings where the Defender's Wade Sensing technology truly shines. The ascent offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean on clear days.
Difficulty: Moderate to Advanced Overview: Connecting directly from Maple Springs, the Main Divide Road runs along the spine of the Santa Ana Mountains. This trail is rockier, tighter, and often heavily rutted. Engaging the Defender's Rock Crawl mode and utilizing the 3D Surround Camera makes navigating the narrow, cliff-side passes a breeze. Reaching the radio towers at Santiago Peak (the highest point in Orange County) is a must-do for any local Land Rover owner.
Difficulty: Variable (Easy main road, difficult off-shoots) Overview: Located just over the county line off the I-15, Cleghorn Ridge is legendary among SoCal off-roaders. The brilliance of this trail is its layout: a main scenic fire road intertwined with highly technical, steep, and deeply rutted off-shoots. It allows a convoy of differently equipped vehicles to ride together, letting you choose your level of extreme capability at every turn.
